Franca Sozzani’s GCC Emerging Designer Award is a sustainable fashion design competition organized annually by Eco – Age to select young designers with the ability to create environmentally friendly clothing.
Creative director Livia Firth invited famous figures in the fashion industry including president of the Italian Fashion Association Carlo Capasa, businessman Carmen Busquets and Vogue editor Edward Enninful to choose the five finalists.

The 13-member jury met at a secret villa on Tuesday to evaluate the qualifications of the 10 designers on the list.
The winner will receive sponsorship from the Italian Fashion Association to create and show a new collection at Milan Fashion Week taking place in February 2019. In addition, they will also be able to cooperate with the retail center.
Below are 5 outstanding designers who entered the finals of the contest.
1. Gilberto Calzolari
Design a dress from jute coffee bags from Brazil.
2. Teatum Jones
The dress design is made from recycled polyester and Lenzing fabric – a fabric derived from wood cellulose.
3. Behno
Design a dress from old clothes with details from recycled fibers from fishing nets and carpets.
4. Davide Grillo
Design a hand-sewn gown using onion, wood and walnut materials.
5. Wrad
The costume design uses recycled graphite paint powder instead of chemical dyes.
In an interview at a press conference, president of the Italian Fashion Association Capasa said: `Choosing the winner was very difficult because we found that the submitted works all have good quality and impression.
Jury member Christopher Bevans, founder and creative director of Dyne, also had some advice for the five eliminated contestants.
