This morning, while I was washing dishes in a quiet kitchen in the middle of the woods, my friend’s iPad pinged with news from CNN.
I asked: “Train to another city or metro?
But that’s exactly what the metro is.
That news made the rest of my morning sad.
Metro – trams and subways – is one of the safest means of transport.
And New York’s metro is huge, one of the largest systems in the world.
Yet this morning 4 people died, 67 people were injured.
The area near Spuyten Duyvil station must have been devastated this morning.
If it were early November, maybe I would have been on that train.
But “if” means it didn’t happen, or it’s unknown if it happened at all.
I remember reading about the accident of a couple cycling around the world.
I admire that mentality.
A minivan or a train derailing, you’ll never know.
With my little head, I don’t really believe in gods.

Life is always like that, the future cannot be predicted, the past cannot be redone, only the present we can hold firmly in our hands.
A lot of sad news comes at the end of the year, but I don’t feel discouraged because of that, on the contrary, the people who have passed through that life, they leave us a very valuable awareness.
